Confronting Racial Injustice in the Definition Industry

Injustice

Just like the rest of us, a large majority of the construction industry is comprised of individuals of color. For a variety of reasons that I don't have the time to delve into, we are expected to be white, and we are expected to deliver jobs to these individuals. If we want to be successful, we need to do better.

One of the biggest challenges that we face in this industry is how to deal with racial injustice.

We're all aware of the issues, and we can't change our ways of doing business. In fact, we may feel that what is needed to win is more, not less, racial diversity. We all want to feel like we are "on the right side of history," but in the end, history is a lot more complicated than we ever want to admit.

We’ve seen this happen so many times before. For example, in the late 1980s, a lot of the people in the business of the definition industry started to realize that no matter what they did, there was no way they could make good money on a product that was defined by a white, middle-class, male audience. In the late 1980s, they started to realize that a lot of the people who did well were white and middle-class.

This also made the industry more and more of a business for the white, middle-class, male audience.

The definition of industry is the only industry that has a clear and consistent definition. Even now they can't agree on what that definition should be, because there are so many different opinions about what constitutes a “real definition.” But that doesn’t make the industry any less of a business.

As the industry grew, so did racism. To say that the definition of industry is an industry with a clear and consistent definition is like saying the NFL is a sport dominated by white male athletes. They both have a very clear definition, one that is very clear and easy to understand. But the NFL is a sport and the NFL is a business. It's a business that is all about winning and it's a business that has a clear and consistent definition.

Injustice

But the definition industry is just as guilty of racism as the NFL.

If you read an article like this and think that you can take the words in the article out of context, you’ll be surprised to find out that the original author of the article doesn’t even know what the words in the article mean. It’s all about how the word “black” is used to define someone.

The problem comes from the fact that the words in the article are actually just a very simple definition of how a team needs to look to be a championship contender.

The definition industry has long been a major source of race-related controversy. In the 1970s, the Federal Trade Commission took the case of "black athletes" and began requiring that all teams have the same physical requirements for players to be allowed on the field so that players of all races would be able to play together and not just the white teams. That's led to a lot of racial tensions in the sport.
