This summer I got to take my trusty boat out on Lake Michigan for the first time. It was a special event for me because I had been saving up for a boat for years, but I didn’t really know how to use it. I had never taken my boat out on a lake before and I didn’t expect the experience to be as great as I had hoped.
I had thought that I would take my boat out to have a good time, play with my friends’ boats, maybe take some pictures, and have a good laugh. But that’s simply not the case.
There wasn’t any music to drown out the sound of the waves and the wind and the spray hitting my face. There was no sound of laughter or music to distract me from the sounds of the boat and the lake.
The boat was the only thing around me that I could focus on. Every time my focus drifted to my boat, the boat was there to distract me. And that distraction was what kept me from getting in the water. I had read about lake fishing and the thrill of a fresh lake and the satisfaction of coming across a fish, but those things weren’t what kept me from getting in the water.
