Habits

Instead, you are caught up in a habit of wiping your ass, which is causing you to neglect your other responsibilities. To kick your worst habits, try these 6 tips.

The first step is just to stop.

You know how it goes when you are just about to brush your teeth when you notice that you have a mouth full of shit? I just can't imagine how much worse it would be if you just stopped. Instead of just brushing you need to consciously decide to stop.

You need to stop because it is impossible to stop. Now you are literally saying, “I will stop when I am about to eat my breakfast!” If you could stop, you would stop right now.

It's difficult to stop, but you can be aware enough to know when it is happening. To be aware you need to be willing to look at your behavior.

You need to know how much it bothers you and when you are going to start to see the change. The first step is to stop. If you are not ready to stop, then stop and do it.

I'm willing to stop, I don't have to stop. I can still have a good day, but I need to recognize when I am about to stop. The only way to do this is by being aware. One easy way to start is by having a moment of insight into how you are reacting to your habits.

One thing you can do is try to create a script of things that trigger your bad habit.

Try to write down the thoughts that come to mind when you’re doing the same thing. If you are a coffee drinker, then you can try to write down the thoughts you have when you’re walking to work in the morning. If you smoke, writing down the thoughts you have just before you light up your cigarette is a great way to kick your habit.

Habits

This was a very personal question for me. I've been a smoker since I was 12, and before that, I hadn't smoked in some time. I even smoked occasionally in the past; but not regularly. I did write down in my head how the thought of smoking made me feel, but the thought that I had written down in my mind was so intense that it was almost like I was going to jump out of my skin. It was just too much to think about.

I don't know exactly what you mean by a "worst" habit. I don't take my nicotine and other nicotine-containing products very seriously. I've never felt guilty smoking and I don't like to think about it too much.

What I mean to say is that my worst habit is not to think about smoking. I think that the best way to do that is to not think about it at all. I was in a meeting the other day and someone commented on how crazy it was that I always thought about smoking. I was like “That’s not me! I’m too busy thinking about the future and the things that make me feel good.
