The #1 Thing People Get Wrong About Oregon

Oregon

The truth is people get a lot of wrong information about Oregon. The biggest misconception is that it is the most liberal state. In reality, Oregon is far and away the most conservative state. We have more guns per person than any other state, and you can see how this is a huge factor in the gun violence epidemic in the state. We were even called the "Gun Death Capital of the World" back in the 80s.

This is true. We may have more guns per person than any other state, but we also have more cops per capita than any other state.

The gun violence epidemic is not limited to the state of Oregon, but it is definitely much more prevalent than you might expect. A study done by the federal government showed that gun deaths in Oregon were more than double the national average.

A lot of people might not think of Oregon as the gun death capital of the world. We do have the second-highest rate of gun deaths in the nation, but that's large because most of the guns have been stolen. It might seem like we're the gun capital of the world because we're also the greatest gun thief state in the nation. But there's a problem. Oregon is not as well-armed as the general population. Gun deaths are also more evenly distributed geographically.

The Oregon public health system actually does a pretty good job of controlling gun violence.

In 2004, the Oregon State Department of Health reported that the gun death rate for the state was 6.3 per 100,000 residents. Now it's down to 4.7, but it's still a pretty big difference when compared to the national average of 2.6.

And despite its name, the gun death rate in Oregon actually goes down when you compare it to the state overall. The number of gun deaths in the state is actually down about 1.2 deaths per 100,000 people. The state overall has a gun death rate of 37.1, which is about 1.5 times higher than the national rate.

Oregon

Oregon is actually the second-best state for gun control in the country, behind only California. That said, Oregon doesn't have a gun death rate that's that high compared to the national average. In fact, gun death rates in Oregon have fallen over the past decade.

Oregon is not alone. California had the second-highest gun death rate in the country for the past several years.

In fact, California is the only state in the country that has a higher gun murder rate than Oregon. In fact, despite the fact that it has a higher gun death rate than Oregon, California has the lowest overall gun death rate in the country.

Oregon, on the other hand, has a gun death rate that far exceeds the national average. In fact, in the past few years, Oregon has had the second-highest gun death rate in the country. It's not because people are more likely to get shot in Oregon. It's because you can't get away with murder in Oregon.
